Designing for Sustainability Summit

These days, it's not enough to simply make cleaner-running cars. The use of more environmentally positive and recyclable materials, creating more efficient designs, and developing intelligent multi-modal approaches are becoming increasingly important.

 

Art Center College of Design, a world-renowned institution that's produced a large percentage of the world's car designers for many years, is stepping out to make a statement about the importance of environmental design with its inaugural Designing Sustainable Mobility summit. The college is hosting the summit at its Hillside and South Campuses on February 7 and 8. Here, intensive workshops and discussions will bring together designers and executives to create real-world change, with a focus on how to influence the future of automotive design and turn environmentally positive ideas into profitable business solutions.

 

The main summit will be limited to 100 designers, engineers, product planners, scientists, government officials, and educators. An evening keynote event on February 7, which will accommodate up to 500 attendees, will include a summit highlight reel by Art Center graduate students and a keynote address by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

 

In tandem with the summit, Green Car Journal is producing a ride-and-drive of advanced technology vehicles from Ford, Volkswagen, and other major automakers, enabling Summit attendees and Art Center students to experience these vehicles first-hand on public roads. Green Car Journal has previously produced ride-and-drives of advanced and alternative fuel vehicles at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Society of Environmental Journalists Annual Conference, and the Sierra Club's National Convention.
