French Big on Biofuel

Biofuel is receiving a push from the top in France as that country's president, Jacques Chirac, is now being driven about on this alternative fuel. The president's own Citroen C6 sedan is now operating on biodiesel, along with nearly 50 percent of the vehicles in the official fleet at the Elysee Palace. This should be no surprise since Chirac is the country's former Agriculture Minister and France also has a very strong farm lobby. Biodiesel in France is mostly made from rapeseed. France is aiming at renewable fuels representing 7 percent of its overall fuel use by 2010.
