GM Daewoo Shows Hybrid S3X

Heralded as the first vehicle to be developed entirely by GM Daewoo Auto and Technology Co. (GMDAT), the S3X provides a glimpse of what we can expect from the new GM-Daewoo relationship, which was created when GM took over the company in 2001. In fact, labeling this Korean-built SUV as a Chevrolet is GM's way of establishing Chevrolet as a global entry-level brand, and distancing the substantial Korean automaker from a name associated with Daewoo's financial downfall in the last decade.

As if this weren't enough to roll into a single model debut, the S3X concept vehicle is powered by a hybrid drivetrain, indicating GM's continued interest and investment in the technology. The S3X is based on GM's Theta platform, which underpins the company's Chevrolet Equinox and Saturn VUE sport-utility vehicles. While the hybrid drivetrain isn't likely to make production in the short term, the fact that it could potentially be adapted for any three of these models makes the prospect of a GM hybrid SUV in the near future much brighter.
