GM's Hydrogen HUMMER H2H

It was only a matter of time until GM debuted a hydrogen powered HUMMER concept, and that time has arrived. The General's HUMMER H2H shown here is billed as a one-of-a-kind experimental hydrogen vehicle with no production plans in the works. Still, it's good to see some advanced technology being applied to the vehicle and, as always, we'd sure like to see a hybrid powerplant make its way between the HUMMER's fenders...something that's not so far-fetched. After all, hybrid powerplants have been developed for the military version of the HUMMER and have been undergoing testing for some time.

The Hydrogen HUMMER H2 SUT debuted with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger behind the wheel at a BP hydrogen station opening at Los Angeles International Airport. Powered by a supercharged 6.0-liter Vortec V-8 modified to run on gaseous hydrogen, the HUMMER H2H is the result of a team effort by GM engineers in the U.S., Canada, and Germany, along with GM fuel cell partner Quantum Technologies.
