Hydrogen Shelby Cobra Available

With the Hydrogen Car Company's (HCC) recent launch of the Hydrogen Shelby Cobra, one of the automotive world's most legendary icons comes roaring back onto the scene with a decidedly modern twist. A partnership between HCC and Carroll Shelby Licensing, the subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International

that holds the trademarks and design rights to Shelby's arsenal of famous products, has chosen a Shelby Cobra CSX 4000 Series powered by a hydrogen internal combustion engine as its first public offering.

Shelby enthusiasts needn't worry: According to the company, the Hydrogen Shelby Cobra offers power and performance comparable to the original gasoline powered Cobra. What may be surprising, however, is that this level of performance is achieved with no carbon emissions (neither CO nor CO2) and very low nitrous oxide emissions (NOX).

Assembled at Carroll Shelby's engine facility in Gardena, Calif. the hydrogen variant is available with a 7.8-liter Shelby 427 FE V-8 or a 5.8-liter Ford 351 V-8, and either a composite or aluminum body. Prices start at $149,000.
