While 2025 is a long way off, the standards for cars that will be sold then are being decided now. If you want cars with better gas mileage and pollution controls, then January is the month for you to speak up.

The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation are holding three public hearings in Detroit, Philadelphia, and San Francisco where everyone is encouraged to comment on pushing fuel efficiency standards up to an average of 54.5 miles per gallon (on the road that will be closer to 40 mpg) and ratcheting down carbon pollution emissions to 163 grams of CO2 per mile. These hearings are a chance to support standards that will make all vehicles greener.

With 13 automakers signing letters supporting this National Program on gas mileage and pollution standards (even the National Association of Manufacturers supported the standards!), one would think that opposition to cutting our addiction to oil, saving billions at the pump, and creating jobs would be hard to find.
