Mercedes Hybrids Planned

While appearing significantly behind the curve in introducing hybrid electric vehicles, DaimlerChrysler aims to change that dynamic within the coming five years. The company is said to be aiming at the introduction of one or more Mercedes-Benz models with hybrid drivetrains here and in Asia.

Drivers in Europe have historically embraced high efficiency diesel vehicles and most automakers, including DaimlerChrysler, feel that diesels largely offset the need for hybrids in that market. However, this could change if hybrid popularity grows in Europe as it has in the U.S.
