More Honda Hybrids on the Road

With the introduction of its Accord Hybrid at dealerships on December 3, Honda (www.honda.com) is projecting a bright sales future for its hybrid vehicles in the coming year. Honda expects 20,000 hybrid Accords to sell, bringing next year's total Honda hybrid sales to over 45,000 units when combined with the Insight and Civic hybrids. If this prediction holds true, the total number of Honda hybrids sold in the U.S. next year could nearly meet the total number of hybrids sold by all automakers so far this year.

The Accord Hybrid will cost about $30,000, some $3,300 more than the conventionally-powered Accord EX V-6. For that premium, the Accord Hybrid adds 15 hp and 20 lb.-ft of torque to the standard V-6 model's total power output and, importantly, an additional 9 mpg and 7 mpg respectively to this popular Honda sedan's EPA city/highway fuel economy rating.
