More Mercedes Diesels Coming

Mercedes-Benz
USA believes that the diesel engine has potential in the American market and is expected to offer additional diesel-powered models to the U.S. in the near future. The upcoming second-generation M-Class SUV, which goes on sale shortly, is a likely diesel candidate. The ML 280 CDI and ML 320 CDI, the latter featuring the company's new 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine, will both be sold in European markets. However, it's still uncertain whether either will be made available here in the U.S.

Meanwhile, Mercedes' E320 CDI, which has been on sale in the States since last year, is expected to surpass its sales target of 3,000 vehicles by more than 50%. This solid demonstration of interest in Mercedes diesel vehicles, combined with the possibility of full 50-state diesel sales by 2006 with the introduction of low-sulfur diesel fuel, indicates what could be a very favorable future for diesel Mercedes vehicles in America.
