Prius Production Increasing to 100K

The Toyota Prius is on its way to becoming one of Toyota's best-selling passenger cars, say Toyota execs. On the heels of this hybrid passing the 100,000 mark in total U.S. sales - a number reached since its debut here in the summer of 2000 - Toyota has announced an increase in Prius allocation to 100,000 annually for the American market during calendar year 2005. This move should help alleviate the delivery backlogs that have grown to over 20,000 this year.

Toyota's Prius hybrid electric vehicle was introduced to the Japanese market in 1997 and has now surpassed 250,000 in overall worldwide sales.
