Second Lexus Hybrid Coming?

There's a buzz building that suggests a second hybrid Lexus model is in development, even though Lexus' first hybrid vehicle, the RX 400h, is not yet on sale. The new model is said to be a hybridized variant of the upcoming third-generation Lexus GS luxury sedan, combining a 4.5-liter V-8 with an electric drivetrain. The sedan, possibly designated a Lexus GS 450h, would feature the performance of a V-12 engine with the efficiency of a V-6.

The on-sale date for the RX 400h is set for April 15. Production of a GS hybrid could begin about the same time. If it comes to fruition, this second model would underscore Toyota's commitment to hybrid technology as a premium, performance-enhancing option for its upscale Lexus line.
