New Hybrid's High-Tech Electronics
 The Lexus LS 600h and the Lexus LS600hL hybrids launched in May feature the first hybrid application of an advanced high output power control unit (PCU ) and battery control system from DENSO. The PCU uses a boost converter to raise main battery voltage to a maximum system voltage of 650V, with two inverters also converting DC power into AC for driving the vehicles’ main traction motors. DENSO says this new PCU has the ability to produce higher output power by 60 percent per unit volume compared to the company's conventional technology. When designed to produce the same output as conventional technology, it can be reduced about 30 percent in size and 20 percent in volume, contributing to packaging and weight efficiencies.
The company’s new battery cooling system is said to provide comparable cooling performance as conventional systems with about half the amount of air required, while reducing noise from blowing air by 30 percent. The latter makes for quieter vehicle cabins, a hallmark of luxury brands like Lexus.
